When to book

The ideal window is from around 28 days after mating (25–35 days is best). At this stage we can confirm the pregnancy and detect the puppies' heartbeats. If you know the mating date, pop it in the form and we'll book you in at the right time.

What it tells you

A scan confirms the pregnancy and that the puppies are developing and viable. We can give you a rough idea of litter size, but please note ultrasound isn't a reliable way to get an exact count — for an accurate puppy count a vet X-ray around day 55 is best.

What to expect

Completely painless and safe, with no radiation. We may clip a small patch of fur on the tummy for a clear image. The scan takes around 30 minutes and is calm and stress-free.
